Event: Berlin race weekend
Series: FIA Formula E
Location: Paris, France
Date: 21 May 2016
May 2016 marked the second time that Formula E visited Berlin, albeit this time in a different location. In 2015, the sport had made use of Tempelhof, a disused airport which offered a spectacular, somewhat surreal setting to hold a race. It didn’t feel completely in keeping with the sport’s preferred stomping ground of street circuits, however, so a change of venue prompted by the airport being pressed into service as a refugee shelter wasn’t a bad thing.
The experienced Spacesuit team of Shiv Gohil, Dan Bathie and Marta Rovatti Studihrad returned to the battleground, amidst glorious German sun in the heart of the capital city. As usual, they followed Spacesuit’s benchmark-setting three day shoot programme: garage activity and technical components on Thursday; track walks, press conferences, driver portraits and shakedown on Friday; and then all track sessions on the Saturday, including the autograph signing, drivers’ parade and podium.
For FIA Formula E, we also covered the VIP hospitality areas and the fantastic Friday night cocktail reception, as well as all off-track entertainment and fan zones. We also shot meet and greet activities for corporate sponsors and a series of BMW i8 hot laps around the track for VIPs.
The Berlin race weekend was a fantastic experience for the whole team, who can’t wait to revisit the city next year. In the meantime, we’ve added the imagery to our vast Formula E archive, from which you can license images for editorial or commercial use. Simply ask us for more details. Enjoy these selected snaps.
